To insure absolute surface uniformity,
S&S pours their glass onto a bed of mercury. Each piece of glass is perfectly
flat and optically pure. We use only 20 mm / 3/4” thick glass in our furniture
range. This extremely thick glass is unusual in the furniture industry, but it
guarantees a high load capacity and accentuates the elegant design of fine audio

Expanding the conventional 'ALIS' technology to larger size PDPs,
FHP developed 'e-ALIS technology'. In common with ALIS, 'e-ALIS'
adopts a common electrode on the front glass panel, while it adopts
a grid cell structure on the back glass panel. Only half the electrodes
are required compared with other XGA panels. By adopting the original
driving method to this panel structure,
FHP realises a progressive display and also achieves high brightness
of 1000cd/m2. This new method alternately addresses odd lines and
even lines during addressing time, and after that, displays all
lines at once (progressive display). Further, by improving colour
temperature (9000K), it allows a higher quality of colour reproduction
for TV images, such as blue sky and white clouds.
